Updates

Long time no blog. Sorry it has been a while. That means this will probably be a long post.
I will start with G's updates. We went to Dallas this week for his GI appt and his allergy appt. Monday we had our GI appt. I really like the Dr she was very nice, she is in agreement that we need to figure out the allergy thing so we can control the reflux, she put him on xrthramicine(SP?), this is normally used as an antibiotic, but we are not using it for that purpose, we are using it to help break down the food to keep him from spitting it up. I am not really sure how it works but we are going to try it. He has to take it every eight hours and 30 minutes before eating. He has to return to the GI in 2 months for a check up.
Tuesday we headed to the allergist, they took a full history very detailed history, and I really liked this dr as well, she was very informative and helpful. Then we proceeded to do the skin test for some foods and some environmental allergies. Poor G did not like this, for those of you who don't know what this entails, from Web MD Scratch test (also known as a puncture or prick test). First, a doctor or nurse will examine the skin on your forearm and clean it with alcohol. (Sometimes, the skin test is performed on an area of your back.) Areas on your skin are then marked with a pen to identify each allergen that will be tested. A drop of extract for each potential allergen -- such as pollen, animal dander, or insect venom -- is placed on the corresponding mark. A small disposable pricking device is then used so the extract can enter into the outer layer of the skin, called the epidermis. The skin prick is not a shot and doesn't cause bleeding. They also put a control which is saline and a histamine for comparison. You should have a reaction to the histamine, but not the saline. This helps gage the skin test to see how large of a reaction on a 1-3 scale you have. Well you also have to lay still for 20 minutes for the test to be complete. Now imagine how hard this is for a 2 year old. I had to hold him, but somehow the first test got smeared and was not valid, so we had to start over. This time he had a reaction to the saline, this should not happen. They are not sure is he just has really sensitive skin or if the test caused his eczema to act up causing the reaction to the saline. Either way because of this the second test was also not valid. DAMN IT!
So we were sent to the lab to have blood drawn for a RAST test for allergies, now those of you who have followed our medical dramas, know that we had this done before and it was negative for everything. SO I asked what the point was to do it again . She explained that this test is different from the one done in TN and that these results should be more accurate. We should have these in 7 days. SO now we are playing the waiting game. He is back on all his meds, and I was hopeful that he had outgrown the asthma, because he only seems to have it during the winter. She explained that this is very common and it is unlikely that he has outgrown it. So if he wakes up at least 2 times in one month due to coughing we are to start back on the breathing treatments to keep the swelling down in his lungs. In the hopes that if we do this he will not have the issues that he had last winter that ended us up in the ER. She wanted him back in one month but I asked that we wait 2 so we could do both appointments on the same day and she agreed to do that.
So that is all for the Dr's visits. While in Dallas we took L and G to the zoo. We had a great time and despite the fact that my step mom and I were both sweating to death we enjoyed it. I am so thankful that she was there. Especially for the Allergist. She kept L at the hotel while I took G to the DR and this took from 8-2 so it would have been a very long day for her.
Now for my exciting news, I got a job at Dillards. I am working at night and on the weekends, I have worked 2 nights so far and I think I will enjoy it although it boring. Not like Albertsons at all, but once I get a feel for it I think it will be fine. I will say there are alot of lazy people who work there. They would rather stand around and do nothing than do anything. I just cant do that, time passes way to slow when you are doing nothing.
Hubby is watching the kids in the evening, I don't think he is enjoying it much, but it will be fine he will get a routine going and get the hang of it.
L is doing ok, she hasn't gotten into any food lately, but she has had some whining issues, lately she whines about everything. I think she just really wants attention. She is getting all geared up for her birthday next month. She has a huge list of things she wants. LOL
H is doing well, she got another progress report home last week with all A's and B's I am so proud of her. She is improving on everything.
Well I guess that is all for now. I am tired and must go to bed. Till next time remember to hug and kiss your family and tell them you love them, today is gone and tomorrow may never come............
